You will find plans in books, articles, and on the web. Wentworth has an extensive collection of books and scholarly journals, which is where the highest resolution and quality images will be found.

Search Formulation Tips:

  • Search by the building name, architect/firm name, or building type. You might have to try several approaches.
  • Don't give up. Contact a librarian if you are unable to find plans for the building you need.

Where to Search:

  • Try the library catalog first
  • Next go to the Avery Index of Architectural Periodicals
  • Choose advanced search in Avery Index of Architectural Periodicals, and go to the physical description box. Select plans if you know you want the article to include plans.

Our library staff has created subject guides to help you. Take a look at the Architecture Subject Guide and choose the drawings and plans tab for more suggestions on how and where to search for plans, sections, etc.  Select the RefWorks Guide for tutorials on how to create a RefWorks account and how to manage your citations.  Also note on the RefWorks Guide that there are dates for drop-in workshops on RefWorks.  You can always stop by the Information Desk, and we'll get you started on RefWorks!
