Encyclopedias and databases will be most helpful. From the library website, go to the "Research by Subject" tab and choose "Humanities."
Under "Core Resources," try Biography In Context for biographical background information and Gale World History in Context for more details about the time period. You can also try your search term in some of the other databases listed on the Humanities subject page.
